What is wakeskating?

by Leanne Swales

Some people may tell you that Wakeskating is Wakeboarding without bindings this it’s not true, fact you stand sideways on water and get towed by a boat but for me that’s where the similarities end.

If you were to ask wakeskaters to rename there sport you will probably find most of them would call it skateboarding on water as Skateboarding is where nearly all the technical tricks originated from i.e Kickflips, shuvit veriation, Bigspins and the street style of lip and rail riding.

Wakeskating is a ever progressing sport and has grown hugely in the past ten years.

Wakeskaters do not need the aid of a big wake although some riders enjoy the wake of our Superair to wakeskate for wake 2 wake riding. Most skaters prefer smaller wakes for lip tricks. You can even Wakeskate behind a Jetski.

In recent times wakeskating become more and more urbanized due to the advent of the “Winch”. This invention has given wakeskaters the opportunity to ride in places never imagined possible before. Thus, making wakeskating more accessible than ever before.

Well that’s the best I can do at describing this ever progressing boardsport, if you still don’t get what I’m banging on about, give it a go I promise as soon as you are up on the water you will love it. With its relatively fast learning curve and comedy falls everyone climbs out of the water and boat smiling.
